Double Your Energy

Explore the unique THUNDERBEAT Portfolio

Olympus aims to provide innovative energy solutions delivering surgical safety and instrument versatility for efficient and streamlined operations with optimal patient outcomes.

THUNDERBEAT is the world’s first and only advanced energy system that delivers two well-established forms of energy to a tissue simultaneously:

  • Ultrasonic energy for superior dissection and fast cutting
  • Advanced bipolar energy for secure haemostasis and sealing of vessels up to and including 7mm in diameter

THUNDERBEAT TYPE S with Intelligent Tissue Monitoring

At Olympus, we are committed to the pursuit of uncompromised safety and reliability. The THUNDERBEAT Front-actuated Grip Type S has been developed with new safety features besides the inherited advantages of its predecessor. Safety is further enhanced by the newly developed Intelligent Tissue Monitoring technology which uses sophisticated detection technology to control ultrasonic activation. These improvements deliver breakthrough THUNDERBEAT performance that facilitates seamless and efficient surgery.

Procedures

Prostatectomy

Prostatectomy:

Simultaneous SEAL & CUT delivers efficient dissection and transection of the vas deferens, seminal vesicles and isolation of the dorsal complex during prostatectomy. THUNDERBEAT's unique jaw design grasps tissue securely for reliable haemostasis which is of particular importance when dividing the lateral pedicles.

Nephrectomy

THUNDERBEAT's unique combination of ultrasonic and bipolar energy provides efficient and precise dissection of the renal hilum in total and partial nephrectomy procedures. Precision during vessel skeletonisation is enhanced with the tapered jaw design and advanced bipolar energy ensures secure sealing of the gonadal, andrenal and lumbar vessels.

Advanced Features and Benefits

Intelligent Tissue Monitoring

This safety-assist technology stops ultrasonic activation to prevent excessive temperature increases. It achieves this using intelligent monitoring technology that detects the small change in ultrasonic impedance that occurs once the tissue has been dissected.

Primary Haemostasis and Secure Vessel Sealing

THUNDERBEAT SEAL & CUT mode delivers ultrasonic and bipolar energy simultaneously to provide stable vessel sealing and fast tissue transection. Fewer vessel-ligation steps are required due to the ability of pre-coagulation as well as due to the secure cutting and sealing of 7mm vessels.

Secondary Haemostasis

The THUNDERBEAT SEAL mode without simultaneous cutting allows for:

  • Immediate sealing of secondary bleeding
  • Control of oozing bleeding by spot coagulation
  • Pre-sealing of vessels through the precise application of advanced bipolar energy

Superior Dissection with Optimal Temperature Control

THUNDERBEAT allows for sharp and blunt dissection of the correct anatomic layers even in hard-to-reach places, such as deep pelvic areas.

Fast Tissue Cutting

The unique hybrid technology causes a synergistic effect that contributes to fast tissue transection.

All-in-One Versatility

The innovative tip and ergonomic handle design make THUNDERBEAT a true multifunctional instrument:

  • Atraumatic grasping and uniform tissue compression
  • High tip-opening forces for blunt tissue manipulation
  • Fast and reliable haemostasis
  • Reduced mist generation for improved visibility
