Easy and Repeated Access to Peripheral Lung Regions

The diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary lesions has been a challenge over the past decades and the range of diagnostic procedures is wide. Bronchoscopy, with a reported pneumothorax rate of only 1.5%, is the least invasive approach to peripheral lesions 1 .

As the world leader in endoscopy, Olympus offers a choice of two bronchoscopic sampling solutions: the combination of a scope and the Guide Sheath or the ultrathin BF-MP190F scope.

Key Benefits of BF-MP190F

Facilitating Access to Peripheral Lung Regions

The cutting-edge slim design, combining fibre optics with a video chip in the handle of the bronchoscope, provides an optimal ratio of outer diameter to working channel size. With the BF-MP190F bronchoscope, a 3.0 mm distal end outer diameter is combined with a 1.7 mm working channel diameter. This scope facilitates access to peripheral lung regions for effective diagnostics.

Advancing Manoeuvrability

An upward angulation range of 210° supports smooth insertion into the upper lobe bronchi and allows more of a bend in the scope when an EndoTherapy device is inserted into the endoscope’s working channel. The insertion tube can be rotated left or right by up to 120˚ by simply turning a ring on the control section of the scope.

Guide Sheath Kit for Accurate Access and Efficient Sampling of Lesions

  • Accessing lung lesions in the periphery remains a challenge with bronchoscopy. The Guide Sheath Kit helps to improve diagnosis of peripheral lung lesions
  • The guide sheath is advanced and positioned under X-ray or with ultrasonic guidance at the centre of a solitary pulmonary nodule
  • Once positioned at the target site the guide sheath acts like an extended working channel, allowing repeated access to the lesion for taking biopsies and cytology-brushing

Key Benefits of the GuideSheath System

Less Invasive

Less invasive sampling technique compared to percutaneous or surgical sampling methods.

Multiple Sampling

Multiple sampling and the combination of different sampling methods help to increase yield and diagnostic success.

Reliable and Fast Access

Reliable and fast access to the lesion with less radiation for the patient, and even more precise detection of the centre of the lesion is possible with an ultrasonic probe.

Olympus Radial Ultrasound Miniature Probes

The BF-MP190F/290F scope and the Guide Sheath are both compatible with the OLYMPUS radial EBUS probe. Studies report that the combination of either the Guide Sheath 2 or of BF-MP190F/290F 3 with the ultrasound probe achieves over 90% lesion identification.

UM-S20-17S

Designed to access even the narrowest lumina, this radial ultrasonic miniature probe with an insertion tube of just 1.4 mm diameter is compatible with the thin 2.0 mm diameter GuideSheath. With an operating frequency of 20 MHz, this probe generates high-resolution 360° ultrasonic images.

UM-S20-20R

This radial ultrasonic miniature probe allows detailed, high-resolution, 360° examination of narrow lumina with an operating frequency of 20 MHz, while being compatible with the 2.6 mm diameter GuideSheath.
