Recruitment Process
We want all candidates to have the best possible experience when applying for a role with us. Here is what you can typically expect once you submit an application.
1. Phone screen
If your resume demonstrates what we're looking for in the designated vacant role, one of our recruiters will give you a quick and friendly phone call to learn a little more about you and your fit for the role. It is also your opportunity to learn more about us.
2. First interview or assessment centre
Our recruiters will organise an interview (usually with the hiring manager and recruiter) to learn more about your skills, experience and what you can bring to the role at Olympus.
Depending on the role, you may be invited to attend an assessment centre in lieu of a first interview. This applies to all technical roles and will encompass a hands-on assessment to better understand your practical skills.
3. Scenario assessment and second interview
If you're applying for a non-technical role and have successfully completed your first-round interview, we will invite you in for a scenario assessment and second round interview (usually with the hiring manager and one-up manager).
This interview will be broken into two parts and generally takes around two hours. The scenario component of this interview helps us understand the way you would approach a practical situation that you will encounter in the role you have applied for. Following the scenario assessment, we will discuss your responses and explore further questions. You may also meet other team members or prospective stakeholders at this interview. This is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have from your first-round interview.
4. Reference checks, pre-employment medical checks and Police checks
Should your application progress successfully through the process, we'll ask you to provide a minimum of two referees, both of whom must be previous line managers. We will also launch a confidential Police check through Fit2Work of which you can complete the relevant documentation online. Lastly, we will arrange for you to complete a pre-employment medical through our preferred supplier. This is to determine your ability to carry out the inherent requirements of the role available.
5. Offer
If you're deemed the most suitable person for the role, this is the final stage of the recruitment process! You will be formally offered the role and provided with a contract of employment and onboarding information.
Regular updates:
We understand how stressful it can be when applying for a role especially when it is such a structured recruitment process, thus our recruiters aim to treat all applicants with respect and care. We do all that we can to keep you regularly updated typically utilising email and telephone conversations. Should you not make it successfully through the process, we commit to providing an outcome and where appropriate, provide constructive feedback to support you with your other endeavours.
Career Pathways
Olympus recognises the importance of developing our talent by providing new challenges, continuous learning opportunities and a defined career path. There are several ways in which we offer these opportunities:
Sales Specialist Development Program
The Sales Specialist Development Program (SSDP) is a voluntary program, which provides a framework for sales staff to manage their own development, with close support from their Manager. Within the program, a Sales Specialist is able to progress to the role of Senior Sales Specialist (Lead Others), and subsequently to Executive Sales Specialist (Lead the Business). Each promotion provides an allowance, new learning opportunities and the opportunity to join an elite group of members who are drawn upon to support with key business decisions.
Secondments and Jobs to be Done
Where there are opportunities to draw upon existing talent within the business, be that for short or medium-term requirements, we offer opportunities to be seconded into other areas of the business, subject to the suitability for all parties involved. This has offered genuine learning opportunities for many within the business to understand other areas outside of their core role. In some cases, secondments may turn into a permanent opportunity, allowing for a ‘try before you commit’ experience.
Vacancies
Our recruitment opportunities are advertised internally and externally concurrently, with the internal advertisements available to view on our intranet. We encourage all team members to speak openly with their direct line manager to collaboratively discuss the nature of the role and key responsibilities. Once this has occurred, we take you through a seamless application process and ensure you receive constructive feedback throughout the process.
Employee Recognition
At Olympus we feel strongly about recognising and rewarding our peers for a job well done, to say ‘thank you’ or ‘congratulations’, and do so regularly through our Shining Stars platform.
Shining Stars helps us to shine a spotlight on individuals that go above and beyond, reach their career milestones, or achieve everyday excellence. Team members have the power to acknowledge individuals who genuinely live these values through points-based rewards or e-cards.
As points accrue, team members can put these towards experiences such as travel, spa treatments etc., products from an extensive catalogue that includes electronics, homewares, and much more, as well as gift cards from a large range of suppliers.
Finally, we also celebrate exceptional shining stars with Monthly Recognitions at Town Hall, Quarterly Awards, and our prestigious Annual Awards.
