Corporate Social Responsibility
At Olympus we contribute to society by making people’s lives healthier, safer and more fulfilling around the world – through our business operations as well as charitable contributions to society. Our focus is to empower people to enhance lives. We thereby actively make a sustainable impact on the social challenges we face today and in the future.
Long-term partnerships with a small number of charities in Australia and New Zealand were established in 2014 to concentrate our resources and effort to maximise our impact in society. Prior to establishing these partnerships, our sponsorships were more ad-hoc in nature which resulted in a dispersed effort across a wide range of charities.
Partner selection was driven by the people that make Olympus the company it is today; our people. Staff were given many charity options to choose from to decide on the two charities that best resonated with their beliefs. OzHarvest and Friends of Fiji were the two organisations selected and since then, with Olympus' growing desire to support the community, the charity partners have expanded to include KiwiHarvest, Bowel Cancer Australia and Bowel Cancer New Zealand.
OzHarvest is Australia’s first perishable food rescue organisation, collecting quality excess food which would otherwise go into landfill and distributing it to over 1000 charities.
Ronni Kahn, Founder and CEO of OzHarvest, says "the aim of OzHarvest is to bring attention to the disturbing amount of food wasted in Australia and around the world, where roughly one-third of food produced for human consumption (approx. 1.3 billion tonnes) gets wasted along the way.”
They have, to date, delivered over 100 million meals to 1000 different charities from 35 thousand tonnes of rescued food.
Along with our annual donation of $30,000, we encourage our staff to actively engage with the charity's fundraising and volunteering events.
Drawing inspiration from OzHarvest, KiwiHarvest is the sister organisation in New Zealand with the same heart for food waste and support for locals in need. Since March 2015, Kiwiharvest has delivered over 7 million meals to 280 charities from 2,500 tonnes of rescued food.
Olympus’ decision to develop a partnership with KiwihHarvest, naturally stemmed from the existing relationship with OzHarvest. Much like OzHarvest, our commitment to the organisation goes beyond the $10,000 annual donation, where staff are regularly encouraged to support any fundraisers and events led by KiwiHarvest.
Bowel Cancer Australia
As well as raising awareness for the disease that kills 1 in 12 Australians yearly, Bowel Cancer Australia is a non-government funded organisation that designs and implements support initiatives for Bowel Cancer patients and their families.
Olympus has committed to donating $40,000 annually, along with supplying Bowel Cancer Screening Kits to staff to encourage the charity's key message of early detection. The commitment we've made to Bowel Cancer Australia extends to our involvement with some of their awareness campaigns such as ‘Decembeard’, ‘Red Apple Day’ and ‘Bowel Cancer Awareness Month’.
Bowel Cancer New Zealand
Bowel Cancer New Zealand is committed to reducing the impact of bowel cancer in New Zealand through awareness, education, support and research.
Naturally, our passion for supporting the prevention and awareness of this disease spans to both Australia and New Zealand with similarly opportunities provided across the board to all staff. We are committed to supporting Bowel Cancer New Zealand both financially, with a contribution of $10,000 annually, as well as through supporting their awareness campaigns.
Friends of Fiji Health
Friends of Fiji Health believes in providing free healthcare to poor and needy citizens of Fiji who are suffering from valvular heart disease.
Aside from the annual $10,000 financial contribution, we provide educational support and medical equipment donations to ensure a high standard of healthcare can be delivered by the local Healthcare Professionals of Fiji.
In addition to offering knowledge, expertise and world-renowned products, we also fulfill our responsibilities to our local community through our corporate giving initiatives.
Annual Financial Donations
We are proud to commit $100,000 annually to the five charity partners to focus our resources and efforts in ensuring we maximise our impact in our local community. In addition, we donate equipment to organisations such as Friends of Fiji, to support their work on advancing healthcare in developing countries.
Furthermore, Olympus does not contribute to:
- organisations that discriminate on the basis of race, creed, colour, gender or national origin;
- organisations that are formed under false pretences; or
- denominational religious or political organisations or similar limited-purpose groups.
Our contributions are in accordance to the anti-corruption and anti-bribery laws, the United States Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, UK Bribery Act 2010, as well as the fair competition and anti-trust laws and regulations.

Olympus is committed to living up to our corporate philosophy of “Making people’s lives healthier, safer and more fulfilling”.
We recognise the importance of educational programs organised by independent third parties with a genuine medical education function relating to disease states, conditions and/ or treatments for which Olympus products are used.
In keeping with industry standards and MTAA guidelines, Sales and Marketing Personnel, and anyone else representing the commercial interests of Olympus, are prohibited from advocating for any grant application. This is to be managed by our Medical Affairs Department only.
Grants requests for supporting such education programs may be submitted in writing to the firstname.lastname@example.org inbox.
Olympus require a request letter issued by the organisation with signature of its authorised person on official letterhead with the following details:
- details of the educational programme/event, such as
- objectives of the educational program/event;
- target participants (number and selection/)
- requested Grant amount (if applicable)
- equipment list (if applicable); and
Please allow 28 days for your application to be reviewed.
The above information is necessary for us to evaluate the merits of the grants requests and to ensure our resources are dedicated to the programs that meet the standards with respect to educational focus. Nonetheless, the requesting organisation shall make independent decision on selection of the participants.
Awarding of any grant is not intended to induce nor obligate any person or entity to recommend, prescribe, lease or purchase Olympus products or services.

We all depend on the environment and its natural resources. Therefore, we are striving to live and work in harmony with nature. To commit to a green earth, we raise awareness and make an effort to minimise our impact on the environment where possible.
Environmental Management System
At Olympus, we recognise the inextricable links between environmental sustainability, climate change and human health. In recognising these links, we are committed to improving our environmental sustainability and have made it a core organisational goal.
To help meet this goal, we have developed and implemented an integrated Quality and Environmental Management System, while also obtaining ISO 14001 accreditation for our plan.
Aside from the internal management system, our commitment to a green earth is to support awareness-raising initiatives.
Much like our other Corporate Social Responsibility activities, we like to engage our staff in many environmentally friendly events throughout the year, from "Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week" to "National Tree Planting Day".
One of our biggest events, hosted globally every June as part of Olympus Environmental Awareness Month, is the annual Environmental Photo Competition. Employees are asked to capture "Blessings of Nature we'd Like to Conserve for Future Generations" from all across the globe.
