Background defocusing function provides a unique technique for photographic expression available with SLR cameras

Ever wanted to create that dramatic shot that emphasises your subject with clear focus, leaving a soft, defocussed background?  Now you don't need an SLR to do this with the SP 590UZ.   Simply select the background defocus scene mode and the camera will electronically create a shallow depth of field.  In the resulting image, the main subject stands out clearly, while the background is defocused just like a picture shot with an SLR camera.

A Dual Shakeproof CCD-shift image stabilisation mechanism with digital SLR heritage

If you're out and about and you don't want to carry a bulky tripod, you might end up with blurry pictures when shooting at high levels of zoom.  The SP-590UZ prevents this with a Dual Shakeproof CCD-shift image stabilisation mechanism and high-sensitivity image capture. An inbuilt gyro sensor detects the range of movement of the camera caused by an unsteady hand, and triggers the internal actuators that use sophisticated algorithms developed originally for the state-of-the-art E-Series to shift the CCD to compensate for the path of movement. The result is crystal clear shots, without the need to set up a tripod.

The SP-590UZ contains an HDMI^TM connection for output of images in high definition onto an LCD or Plasma TV. An optionally available HDMI^TM cable allows the camera to be connected to HDTV equipment with an HDMI input so camera images can be viewed on a high-quality HDTV display.
