When designing this digital SLR system, we made a clean break with the past and created a camera body - plus lenses and other accessories - totally geared to the requirements of professional digital photography. Every detail has been optimised to provide the quality results expected in the professional world.
The new Full-Frame Transfer CCD delivers increased dynamic range and improved colour while special functions reduce noise. The lenses have been matched to the image sensor to exploit its full performance potential. An exclusive Supersonic Wave Filter stops virtually all dust particles from landing on the imager. The need for durability and precision operation also had priority.
Lens mount, buttons, dials, release and shutter were designed to function impeccably even after repeated use and in demanding conditions. A magnesium alloy body was chosen to ensure the Olympus E-1 is an extremely robust digital SLR that can be used day-in, day-out. At the same time, use of this metal makes it a very lightweight model that you can take on any photo assignment or journey. The weatherproof construction protects the precision optical and digital technology inside your Olympus E-1 from the elements.
