Olympus Announces Three New iHS models in Digital Compact Camera Line Up

Three New Olympus iHS Models Announced

Today Olympus Imaging Australia is proud to announce three new models in our compact digital camera line up:

The SZ-31MR, offering big zoom capability and multiple recording technology in a pocket-sized camera.

The SH-25MR featuring GPS, fast autofocus and powerful zoom in a super-slim body.

The TG-820 Tough, with extremely quick camera response, super-fast focusing speeds and superb high-ISO performance  in a rugged camera body.

What is iHS?

Firstly, it helps to understand what iHS technology means to your photography.

Intelligent High-Speed/High Sensitivity Techonology utilises the high drive speed and improved light capture capability of the latest BSI-CMOS sensor to enable much faster autofocusing, data transfer speeds and high ISO photography with lower noise and enhanced picture quality.

Compared to conventional CMOS, Back Side Illuminated (BSI) sensors capture light more efficiently as light-blocking componentry is removed from the light path. The improved signal levels lead to significant improvements in image quality. Autofocus accuracy is further improved for low light shooting.

BSI CMOS sensors have twice the refresh ragte or drive speed of previous generation sensors enabling the autofocus system to operate much faster, improving overall auto focus (AF) acquisition speeds.

Now on to the cameras...

SZ-31MR: Big zoom lens with pocket-sized convenience

The new Olympus SZ-31MR combines the extreme opposites of super wide-angle and ultra-telephoto lens capability in an outstandingly small and lightweight camera. Its 25-600mm* super-compact zoom lens utilises professional-grade ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) and Olympus proprietary Dual-Sided Aspherical lens elements to achieve its extraordinary zoom range and high imaging performance. This remarkable 24x zoom lens represents the cutting-edge of optical engineering.

A newly developed iHS** image quality and speed enhancing technology ensures that superb picture quality is achieved even at high ISO settings in low-light conditions with extremely fast autofocus, start-up, response, and sequential shooting speeds. Image quality improvements are especially noticeable at high ISO settings with superb colour gradation and low picture noise, providing enhanced picture clarity. Up to 60 fps**** still shooting and 240fps**** video recording are possible, for high-frame rate burst shooting in action sport photography, or super-slow motion video recording.

Two TruePic V image processors working in tandem enables the camera to capture two image data streams simultaneously from the 16 megapixel BSI-CMOS sensor. Simultaneously capture a Full HD video and take full-resolution photos, or two videos simultaneously (e.g., capture wide and close-up views of the same scene), or two still images with different framing, resolutions or properties at the same time. This unique capability enables imaging potential not possible in conventional single-processor digital cameras.

A big zoom lens requires extremely effective image stabilisation for sharp and clear pictures. The SZ-31MR uses Dual Image Stabilisation (IS) technology (digital stabilisation and ISO enhancement) in still-shooting to effectively reduce camera-shake even at the full 600mm* zoom setting. Multi-motion digital IS, enabled in video recording, provides for powerful stabilisation that makes stable, handheld movie-capture whilst walking possible.

SH-25MR: Super slim digital camera with a super zoom

The new slim-line SH-25MR sports a high-performance 24-300mm super-zoom lens that utilises professional-grade ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) and Olympus proprietary Dual-Sided Aspherical lens elements to achieve the two goals of class-leading compactness and high imaging performance.

Dual TruePic V image processors working in tandem enables the SH-25MR to capture two image data streams simultaneously from the 16 megapixel BSI-CMOS sensor. You can, for instance, simultaneously capture a Full HD video and take full-resolution photos, or two videos simultaneously (e.g., capture wide and close-up views of the same scene), or two still images with different framing, resolutions or properties at the same time. This unique capability enables imaging possibilities not possible in conventional single-processor digital cameras.

The latest fast-response GPS technology enables satellite location in as quickly as 10 seconds. The camera user simply pre-loads GPS satellite coordinate information taken from the internet into the camera via a computer to utilise this new feature. The names of 700,000 landmarks in 180 countries around the world are pre-programmed into the camera and are automatically displayed onscreen as you frame your shot. The built-in Electronic Compass makes geo-located photography even more precise.

For sharp and clear pictures whether shooting in low-light situations or at maximum zoom range, the SH-25MR uses a Dual Image Stabilisation (IS) technology (digital stabilisation and ISO enhancement) in still-shooting to effectively reduce camera-shake. Multi-motion digital IS, enabled in video recording, provides powerful stabilisation that makes stable, handheld movie-capture whilst walking possible.

The new SH-25MR brings touch-screen convenience for enhanced ease of use. A simple tap of the high-resolution LCD screen focuses the lens at the chosen point in the scene and takes the shot almost immediately. Other applications include LiveGuide touch control and touch-enabled picture playback.
